Scene 1: (Nalan, Damayanthi)

Back home after swayamvaram, Nalan and  are in an amorous mood in the palace garden. He describes that Damayanthi's eyes are as beautiful as lotus leaves, her lips are so charming, and her behaviour is exemplary. He is reminded of the hurdles they faced before their marriage. He urges Damayanthi to leave all shyness behind and enjoy the honeymoon without wasting time. Damayanthi describes the palace garden as unparalleled. The Nandanavanam of Lord Indran or even the Chaitraratham of Kuberan are not comparable to it. Upon seeing the garden pond where Nalan came across the golden swan before marriage, they remember with gratitude the great help rendered by Hamsam as the sincere messenger of love.

Scene 2: (Kali, Dwaparan, Indran)

The entry of Kali and Dwaparan (called Thiranottam). Lord Indran, Agni, Yeman and Varunan, who had been to the kingdom of Vidarbha to participate in the swayamvaram, are on their way back. Kali meets them and asks where they come from. The reply was that they are coming from a far-off place and asked where Kali is going. Kali replies that he is going to attend Damayanthi's swayamvaram and is highly desirous of getting her in marriage. Lord Indran says that they are actually coming from Vidarbha Damayanthi's swayamvaram is over and she chose King Nalan as her husband. Kali gets angry and laughs at the Lords for their futile efforts to get Damayanthi. While all of them were blinking at her, she chose a worthless person from the earth. The furious and jealous Kali decides to get Palan and Damayanthi separated and throw him out of power by all means.
